Amul Franchise IndiaAmul was formed in 1950 and is one of the largest milk and milk products producer in the country. Although it was registered way back in 1946 but it entered the franchise business in early 2000s. This was the time when retail franchising was at peak and several international retail business brands entered India. According to RS Sodhi who is MD of Amul franchise, “We decided that we should get into retailing through our own Amul parlors. In this way we would have direct contact with customers and secondly, our range was increasing from refrigerated, frozen and fresh products. We then realized that if we open our own Amul parlor, it will help us display our wide product range.”
Amul didn’t start franchising right away; in fact it started with its own parlors. But the scenario is different now as there are approx 8500 parlors being run by Amul. Amul Franchise India sells products like milk, butter, curd, buttermilk, cheese, etc including the ice-creams.
When asked about the type of franchisees Amul is interested in, Sodhi replied, “We are not looking for big franchisees like state-wise or nation-wise. We want local franchisees that can personally monitor it within the city. So, there are franchisees having 8-10 parlors but basically local.”
Talking about the Amul franchise buying, the profit margins won’t be high enough. It is considered to be profitable only when you have your own shop or a rented one. The Amul Franchise India usually costs Rs.3-4 lakhs and one can easily earn a profit of 30-40k a month.
Mr.Sodhi also shared, “I will prefer youngsters or couples, if both want to work, to come forward to join our franchise.”
Most of the current Amul franchisees are running multiple franchise of Amul. In 2006, several franchises of Amul were seen shutting. When asked Mr. Sodhi about it, he answered,”If the rent is high or you can’t devote much time, then you are not in for the long haul.”
So, if you are planning to buy a Amul Franchise India, one has to really hard working as they provide a team that gives a special training and if you’re looking for a location in Delhi, Bombay or Kolkata then you will be given preference and these areas are Amul’s highly profitable areas.
